Lanfill Leachate Measurement

Hello out there

Has anyone come across a low cost means of measuring Lanfill Leachate other than using magnetic meters which are pretty costly. Must be able to cope with the aggressive nature of this project..some kind of plastic or stainless steel ideally.

Hi Eamon

You can really only use a PTFE lined MAG meter for this application. Any Flow meter with moving parts (ie: Turbine Flow Meter, Woltmann Helix Meter, Gear Flow Meter will foul quite easily due to the contaminants. an Ultra Sonic flow meter would probably work but would be much more costly than the MAG Meter.

Sorry, If it helps we can provide a Cheap low cost MAG flowmeter we have a very competitive priced range, what size is it you require?

I have used an orifice plate to do this in the past and it was cheap (but it does need power) unlike the battery powered mag meters you can get now (maybe you could look at a solar cell to power one.. just a suggestion

Siemens MAG 8000 battery powered meter or ABB MAGMASTER

A magmeter is generally a bad idea - the leachate can be far too aggressive for the electrodes, especially on a Mag8000W which is only designed for drinking water - better to use one of the externally mounted flow meters - "ultrasonic"

You can use a paddle wheel flow meter but this will depend on the flow rate as they tend to start at 2" bore. We also use the macnaught turbine which seems OK at the moment but we have only been using them for 6 months.
Hope this helps
