- Sensors for measurement of Dissolved Oxygen (optical), conductivity and temperature
The Aquaplus is a water quality probe designed for the measurement of dissolved oxygen, conductivity and temperature. The probe utilises a optical sensor for improved stability and measurement performance. An additonal conductivity sensor also allows for compensation of the dissolved oxygen measurement due to changes in salinity.
When combined with the Aqualogger 2000 / 7000 or backbox, the sensor can be installed and record continuous water quality data.
Advanced Optical DO
The Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor works using the principle of dynamic luminescence quenching. In essence a gas permeable material, called a luminophore is excited by short bursts of blue light, in turn these cause molecules in the luminophore to emit red photons. By measuring this delay we are the level of dissolved oxygen can calculated.
This technique has many advantages over the traditional galvanic method. The most important is that no oxygen is consumed during measurement. This means that the optical sensor does not require a flow to ensure a stable reading. Added advantages include reduced calibration frequency (3 - 6 months) and a replaceable cap which lasts over 2 years.
