Electromagnetic meters operate under Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction to measure liquid velocity. The law states that a conductor moving through a magnetic field produces an electrical signal within the conductor, which is directly proportional to the velocity of the water moving through the field. As a conductive fluid—like water—flows through the magnetic field, a voltage is induced across the two measuring electrodes. The resulting voltage magnitude is directly proportional to the average velocity of the fluid. The induced voltage is then amplified and digitally processed to produce an accurate digital or analog signal. APG's PT-500 submersible pressure transducer is the only submersible pressure transducer on the market with a field-adjustable zero. This let's you correct your sensor as it naturally drifts over time. All you need is a magnet (supplied) and you can move your zero up or down. It's that easy! But, you‚'ll notice our sensor is incorrect. 00:29 HOW TO RE ZERO YOUR SENSOR So we'll simply pull our sensor out of the tank and use our magnet to adjust the zero back to 4 milliamps. If you hold the magnet near the middle of the sensor, it moves the zero up. I’m Shaw Merrill, and today we’re going to show you a cool feature for the PT-500 submersible pressure transducer. It’s our patented cage, which is actually removable. We’re going to show you how to take this thing off, and how it’s going to save you money when you have to replace your sensor. 00:21 CAGE PROVIDE PROTECTION FOR HARSH ENVIRONMENTS Now the cage provides the PT-500 a little extra protection when installed in harsh environments, extending the life of the sensor. However, at some point, every sensor is going to fail, and so replacing a sensor and cage can be expensive. If you can replace just the sensor, it can save you some money. 00:39 HOW TO REMOVE THE CAGE To remove the cage from the PT-500, first make sure the PT-500 is sitting flat on a counter or a hard surface. Now to remove that cage, simply remove the retaining ring with your C-ring pliers. When our customers kept asking for a reliable hammer union pressure transmitter, we decided to help out. Competitor units kept failing, breaking apart during operation and creating unsafe working conditions. To do it right, we started designing from the ground up, looking for opportunities to improve the sensor and the end user's experience. We introduced a fully welded body, wider top access, and large drain holes to protect the electrical connection. The result is an industry leading hammer union pressure transducer that customers prefer for it's durability, ease of use, and reliable performance. VIDEO CONTENT A few years ago, we noticed that some of our customers in the Oil & Gas Industry were having trouble with something we didn't make yet - the hammer union pressure transducer. We had been building pressure sensors since the 1970s, so we decided to help out. 00:14 LEAD TIMES We have a lot of customers in the Oil & Gas business, and we became aware that they were having challenges with hammer unions. Particularly in terms of lead times. Some customers were having some frustrations with long lead times - about 22 to 26 week lead times, and they were getting pretty frustrated. 26 weeks lead times! It was a major problem that we knew we could resolve for them. However, if we were going to build a hammer union pressure transducer, we were going to do it right. 00:45 OUR PRODUCT RESEARCH So before we got started, we asked a lot of questions. What we found was a little surprising. There were just several things that created problems for customers; because we engineered it from the ground up, we solved those problems as we went. We started by tackling some of the obvious problems that competing transducers were having. Some easy fixes that others were overlooking. 01:05 WIDE HOUSINGS Their housings are so narrow you can't even get your fingers in. Ours is open enough that you can get your fingers in there nicely. 01:09 PROPER DRAINAGE Some of them also had drainage issues. You'll see on this one there's these little scallops here to allow for good drainage. 01:19 BUILT FOR HIGH VIBRATION APPLICATIONS Even with a few small but meaningful improvements, we weren't done yet. We dug a little deeper and learned that many competitor's sensors were falling apart during high vibration applications such as Measurement While Drilling. Customers were dealing with vibration that was literally destroying pressure sensors. The hammer unions were just not holding up to the abuse that they were taking. We knew that there was a lot of vibration involved, and so there were a lot of iterative processes where we had failures, and looked at what happened, and redesigned and redeveloped to fix those. We stepped back and said, "What can we do to solve the problem?" We found a very good way of building the hammer union and today we have an awful lot of customers using the hammer union in that configuration with great success. 02:07APG'S HAMMER UNION So after a lot of listening to our customers, we were able to build them a hammer union pressure transducer that shipped much faster, was easier to use, and was built to handle the toughest high-vibration applications. 02:19 CERTIFIED FOR HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS We started with hazardous location certification for North America through CSA, but have since added ATEX certification for acceptance throughout Europe. This video shows step three of fluoride sensor calibration. See our other videos for the other points in the process. Each of our ion specific electrodes (ISEs) must be calibrated before use. The fluoride testing equipment is used with our multiparameter water testing equipment. The probe seen in the video is the AP-7000, which can test up to 12 parameters at once.
