BIO-GAS GENERATION

A water supply and sewerage utility company serving the south west of England have been investing in renewable energy sources to reduce their carbon footprint and aim to have 97% of all the sludge they process digested in some form by 2019.

Their biggest renewable energy source is the methane gas produced in anaerobic digesters, which are used to treat sewage sludge. The bacteria in the digesters break down the organic material in sludge to produce biogas, which is fed into combined heat and power engines. RWBG Hybrid Vortex meters are being rolled out across several sites.

The RWBG is a wafer-style inline vortex flow meter optimised for low pressure Bio-Gas applications, typically CH4 + CO2 mixtures and offers highly accurate measurements (±1%). The meter has no moving parts and is virtually maintenance-free once installed. The RWBG is loop-powered with standard HART® communications for ease of field programming and system integration.

Badger Meter’s vortex flow meters utilise ultrasonic technology to measure tiny vortices that form when media in the pipe move across a strut. The number of vortices formed is directly proportional to flow rate. Badger Meter’s vortex flow meters offer the smallest strut in the industry, which allows for high levels of sensitivity, superior performance at low flow rates, high turndown ratios and low pressure drop.
