Ice Breaker Fuel Consumption Monitoring
Multi-purpose icebreakers Fennica and Nordica have been chartered out to operate in the in the Beaufort Sea and the Chukchi Sea during the next three summer seasons.
In the Baltic Sea and other SECA areas, ship traffic emissions are being reduced
by implementing the new EU directive on sulphur. The fuel-based sulphur limit
is set to decline in 2015 from the current 1.0 per cent to 0.1 per cent.
Precise fuel consumption monitoring on-board was a stated requirement for these vessels in order to validate fuel efficiency to the multi-national drilling company leasing them. The services of Bell Flow Systems were called upon to supply nearly €100K of temperature compensated fuel consumption meters and instrumentation capable of accurately reporting this data in real-time to the vessels Vivicom systems.
Macnaught 316 Stainless Steel meters were chosen for the task.
